The Image Continues celebrates Cristiano Chaussard’s induction as an “immortal” (Academy member) into seat 12 of the Academia Brasileira de Belas Artes. Opening text
The Image Continues celebrates Cristiano Chaussard’s induction as an “immortal” (Academy member) into seat 12 of the Academia Brasileira de Belas Artes. Its focus is an artistic vision he has expressed: “Only art does not die, and only the artist is an immortal being.” The exhibition connects this idea with the line of life and the endurance of a legacy.
A work is born from a gesture, encounters matter and becomes part of other people’s experience. As it is seen, remembered and reinterpreted, it can extend the presence of its creator. The continuity proposed here takes place through this transmission.
In the courtyard, Alma Livre suggests release; Menina brings the face and growth together; Boticaca Mandala rearranges forms around a center; Chrysler Rocket transforms architecture into an upward impulse. The arrival opens paths for an image that continues beyond its first state.
Inside, Theo Vive presents a scene of care. Composição VI makes a golden line rise. Floresta Incandescente and Flor Rubra — Movimento bring the painterly gesture into contact with forms in transformation. Life appears as beginning, growth and possibility.
Caveira Floral introduces finitude, while Olho I holds a small figure taking shape. Eixo Rubro and Máscara Mecânica — Movimento make attention shift between center, figure and change. The works invite us to think of memory as something that both preserves and transforms.
The route reaches the mandalas, the small Retorno and Swimming — Movimento, whose visual affinity with Alma Livre brings back the image encountered on arrival. This reunion gives a perceptible form to Chaussard’s proposition: the artist continues in the legacy their art leaves in the world and in the gaze of those who receive it.
